ESPN first reported the suspension, without giving a reason. The NFL announced that it was for another substance-abuse violation.

After his suspension in May, Alexander admitted he failed a drug test and apologized to the Panthers and their fans “for the effect of my mistake on the team.” The last game of his original suspension had been Sunday’s loss in Baltimore. He rejoined the team Monday, and his return was being hailed as a relief for a defense that will be missing defensive end Greg Hardy indefinitely while he awaits a jury trial on domestic-violence charges.

Alexander is now out until Week 15, when the Panthers play Tampa Bay at home.
