One artist, known on TikTok as villamboom, uploaded a video where they swapped Cyndaquil’s Fire-type for Grass-type. That same artist has also done something similar with the Kanto region starter middle evolutions, giving fan favorite Pokemon Ivysaur, Charmeleon, and Wartortle makeovers.

A lot of the time, Pokemon fan art like this focuses on the starters themselves or their final evolutions, which makes this work especially intriguing. The video starts off with Ivysaur becoming a Fire-type, swapping the leaves on its back with a small, smoking volcano. Next up is Wartortle, who gets colored green and becomes somewhat reminiscent of Quilladin, the evolved form of Chespin. And finally, Charmeleon is edited to look like a blue lizard, with a color scheme that may remind fans of Sobble’s evolutions from the Pokemon Sword and Shield games.
The concept of changing Pokemon types has long been a part of Pokemon fandom, but it’s now become a reality thanks to the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The main gimmick in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet allows players to swap the types for some Pokemon, giving them access to a new suite of moves and changing their usual strengths and weaknesses. However, the type-changing gimmick in Scarlet and Violet doesn’t go quite as far as what’s on display here.
Usually, “Terastallizing” a Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet results in them getting a brightly-colored decoration on their head representing the type they’re being imbued with. When word of the gimmick first leaked online, some fans may have assumed that the Pokemon would be treated to more radical design changes with the changing of their types. Perhaps it’s something that could be explored in a future main series Pokemon game.
New main series Pokemon games come out on a regular basis, but it will likely be some time before Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are succeeded by the Generation 10 games. For now, Pokemon fans can explore the Paldea region and do their best to complete the Gen 9 Pokedex.
