If the figures are correct, Wenger would be earning approximately a £500,000-per-year increase; the money for which has already been earmarked from the club’s budget.
Rumours were already making the rounds that informal discussions between Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis had begun.
Stan Kroenke too showed his support for Wenger, and with Arsenal doing well across competitions, it is vital that Wenger stays on at the club.
Contract extension talks are expected to take place during the forthcoming international break and club officials are confident that Wenger will continue at Arsenal, once his contract expires in the summer.
Arsene Wenger has publicly said that he wants to wait until later in the season before deciding what lies next for him.
Paris St Germain have been tracking Wenger for quite sometime now, and are waiting for him to finish his contract with the Gunners, so that they can try and lure him to the French capital.
Wenger had played down the links to PSG earlier too, stating – “The link is because I’m French and I know the owners. But if that was the case, then I would be there already. My heart is with Arsenal. I am committed to staying longer at this club. We had already a chat with Ivan. It went very well … not a problem.”
And with Kroenke admitting that the money is available for Wenger to spend, and the £42million signing of Mesut Ozil, should be reasons enough for Wenger to stay on.
