Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola will be making their Premier League debuts as Chelsea and Manchester City managers respectively, while Jose Mourinho returns to England at the much-coveted Manchester United job.

Claudio ‘Tinkerman’ Ranieri surprised the top managerial contenders by inspiring Leicester City to the title last season. While, previously, Jurgen Klopp was also introduced to the Premier League as the Liverpool boss and will be at the helm for his first full season. Wenger admits that the English teams hiring world-class managers has intensified the race to the title like never before, however, only one of the ambitious personnel can come out as the winner which makes it even tougher.

“Everybody’s ambitious, never has the Premier League been gifted with so many ambitious people or clubs at the start of the season,” Wenger told in an interview conducted by the club itself.

“We have Mourinho at Manchester United, Conte at Chelsea, Guardiola at Man City, Klopp at Liverpool, so it’s a little bit a world championship of managers as well.

“Everybody will, of course, be highly focused on doing well and it will be interesting. One thing you know from the start - not everybody can win the championship and next year, more than ever, it will be tougher for everybody.

It seems most of the big clubs in England are on the verge of a transition and expectations of instant results are running high given the competition and manager’s reputation. Wenger continued further highlighting the fact that more than the ability of managers in translating their style of play, it would all come down to the activity from on-field players which will ensure the final result.

Wenger thus feels that the credit to the real performers shouldn’t be snatched away while the media are at blowing the managerial competition ahead of itself.

He continued, “But sometimes the media give too much importance to the managers and I believe that what is important is the quality of the players on the pitch. All English teams compete highly to be competitive and have a top squad.”
