After returning a successful campaign in Asia, Arsenal will now host the Emirates Cup where they will take on the Italian club Napoli and also the Turkish club Galatasaray. The Cup could not be held last year due to the Olympics taking place at the same time.

However even after talks of ‘financial fire power’ that the club possessed, Arsenal have not really been able to make an impact with the kind of signings they were expected to have.

Starting with a bid for Gonzalo Higuain, an attempt that failed with the Real Madrid star signing for Napoli and finishing off with the unsuccessful bid for Luis Suarez, things have not really gone the club’s way.

Yaya Sonogo, the U-20 French forward will be the only assured and confirmed signing this season. Even interest in Julio Cesar, the Brazilian goalkeeper, Ashley Williams, the Swansea defender, and Marouane Fellaini, the Everton midfielder all seem to have petered away.

There were even talks for Wayne Rooney which did not materialize.

At the Emirates Google+ Hangout, Arsene Wenger said, “We are still working on improving our squad, but we have a base of young players who get a chance here, who started in the Premier League, like (Wojciech) Szczesny, Jenkinson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, (Jack) Wilshere, (Aaron) Ramsey, (Theo) Walcott – that is unique, nobody else has done that.

“These players can have a special bond and they are on the way upwards, they are not over the hill. They will be better next year and that is why I am confident we will be stronger next season.”
